Wesely J Husted Jr. was a wrestler in high school, he was an exceptional student, first in his class and excelled in math. He enlisted for the war on the16th of June1943 in Altoona Pennsylvania when he was only 18. He was born in 1925 and was raised in West Decatur, Pennsylvania, also known as the Blue Ball, because the blue ball express stopped near the city.  

Husted's parents were Wesley Husted and Effie Gearhart Husted. He had four sisters, Jean, Miriam, Alda, Clarabelle and two brothers, Albert and Kenneth. 

He worked on his family's farm located at Morgan Run Road located 4km from West Decatur. Husted did not marry.
